Our Social Impact
EVERY 5 CHARICYCLES SOLD
DONATE
1 BICYCLE TO KIDS IN REFUGEE CAMPS
Refugee camps are artificial environments where everyone is restricted in their freedom of movement.Â
According to the UNCHR paper by Barbara Harrell-Bond, when children are asked to draw ‘refugee life’ they associate the word with violence and death.
Children have a right to a free, innocent childhood, regardless of their environment.Â
And when children are asked what they want, their response is often “a bicycle”Â
That is why, at Charicycles, we promise that every bicycle we sell contributes directly to funding bicycles for children in refugee camps.
since inception
Refugee Camp Bike Sharing
We implemented bike sharing programs with the help of Mishwar Amal in Lebanon.
The community was responsible to care for the bicycles around the camp together
The whole camp benefited from the use of bikes so that their usefulness is not restricted to a limited number of people
Educational Program
We work with on the ground organisations in all our bicycle giveback programs.
Bicycles are distributed based on an education reward program. Children in refugee camps are not keen on going to classes since they do not see any use in the future. But with incentive they look forward to putting in more effort.
Bicycles are used by gets to get to their classes and go around the camp, making it feel bigger than it really is and free of any checkpoints and barriers.
We work with on the ground organisations in all our bicycle giveback programs.
Share a Ride! Even if you don't cycle.
If you don’t cycle, but would like to give back, you can buy a bicycle for a child in a refugee camp. A simple thing like riding a bicycle helps children experience a more normal childhood, even with all the obstacles they may face in their displacement.
We source from local shops
We source our giveaway bicycles from a merchant in the same refugee camp we distribute in.
This benefits local merchants as well as the people receiving the bicycles.
